Mica, Pewter Powdered Mica 5g packet for Glass Fusing
You can use colorful mica to add sparkle and color shifts to powdered glass; and sift it dry, directly on sheet glass when fusing. I use it extensively when working with glass paste, or glass clay. Pewter is a subtle shade of gray, with just a hint of sparkle.
This packet is 5g of powdered mica in a plastic bag for glass fusing. A little goes a long way.
The mica colors I offer have been chosen because I've had good, consistent results in fusing them to glass. After testing hundreds, I found the majority of colored micas lost color or left unpleasant residue instead of color.
Mica offers different results on different colored backgrounds. Choosing to clear cap is another option as the color can drastically change when clear capped.
I strongly suggest you make a small test when you receive your colored micas to see how they react with your glass, firing conditions and other variables at your studio. You can see my test results on my web site at http://www.steiderstudios.com. Click on the Mica tab.
You can also mix it with powdered glass for subtle color shifts and adding sparkle if using dry. Another option is make a paste (many call it 'glass clay') with powdered glass and use mica for sparkle and color shifts.
Mica will fuse to glass it's actually touching, but not to itself, so after fusing, you'll brush off any excess mica that wasn't clear capped. Save it and use again.
Please note the following mica color shifts I've observed:
Pewter fused directly onto glass is a pewter silver but almost all color burns out to a pale petal pink when clear capped.
