Cecile-1940s WWII Era Vintage Style 3 Pc Romper Playsuit Custom Made
1940's WWII Era 3 Piece Kitschy Applique Romper/Skirt day dress
This dress is a vintage reproduction from the original pattern.
This romper/skirt took lots of fabric - almost 6 yards and lots of time...but it was worth every single stitch! It is the most adorable little romper I've had the pleasure to sew.
Because it is 3 pieces you essentially have 3 different outfits! Wear the blouse and shorts for a romper - the blouse and skirt for a darling day dress to do your housework or to run and pick up the kids at school - or put all three together [see front of pattern envelope] for a great romper/skirt look with the skirt open to show off your flirty little tap shorts underneath.
BLOUSE features tucked darts front and back at the waist to keep the top form fitting around the waist. There are little kimono shoulder cap sleeves. The top closes at the neck with a large tab/tie that snaps right at the neckline and comes over to meet the tie on the left shoulder to make a large bow. There is a breast pocket on the right side.
TAP SHORTS feature a wide leg and high waist with a flat front flap that buttons with double buttons on each side closing up the shorts. To me it is a very nautical look...like sailor pants.
SKIRT features front buttons with an attached tie at the waist for a little bit of adjust-ability. It can be worn with or without the shorts.
OPTIONS: The sample dress features optional hand applied applique of a large lobster. The pattern was copied from the Fall/Winter 1958 McCall's Needlework and Craft Magazine. Super cute for a summer picnic or just to wear around the kitchen.
This can be eliminated if lobsters aren't your thing or if you have an idea for a different applique, convo me. I have tons of vintage craft and women's magazines and patterns or if you've seen something on the web, send me a pic and I'll copy it.
Material shown on sample: Black & White yarn dyed 1/8" cotton gingham. The pocket and shorts hem have been edged in red rick-rack from the underside so the edge just peeks out from behind. The back side of the bow and neck edge have been faced in red bias trim so that it also just peeks out from behind. And since the inside of the skirt shows if you wear it open and over the shorts, the inside hem has been finished with red lace seam binding.
All of my appliques are applied by hand, not machine. Just because that is the way it would have been done originally.
If you prefer to have your applique machine stitched, just let me know and I can do that for you...but it is always my first choice to recreate the garment the way it would have been done originally.
Check out my photoset of fabrics. Please remember that my fabric stash is always changing. Check to see if your choice is still available. But if you don't see what you were looking for give me a shout. Chances are I may already have it, have it on order, or can get it in a jiffy. I place 1 or 2 fabric orders a week.

I currently ship via First Class post to countries other than the United States in order to save you money. You are still able to track your parcel through the customs number which i can provide for you upon request. Currently paypal does not provide you with that customs number automatically as it does the priority or express tracking information.
Typical time in transit ranges from 15 days up to 4 weeks depending on the destination country. This may take longer in peak holiday seasons.
I will ship via priority or express international upon request. Convo me for a quote (or check out USPS.com for rates) and I will bill you for the difference in shipping. All domestic parcels are shipped via USPS Priority 2-3 day service.
For your protection and mine, i only accept Paypal.
Once i've received your measurements and we've talked about and agreed on a fabric or fabrics and determined a final price, I will either make you a reserved listing or send an invoice. Payment is due at the time of invoice or listing unless other terms have been agreed upon. Once final payment has been received I will add your name to my reserve list. I work on a first-come, first-made basis. So once you are all paid up, I put your name in the rotation. Currently I am working approximately 4-6 weeks out on orders. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. But pretty much close to that 4-6 weeks. That doesn't include shipping time. If you need it sooner, maybe we can work something out. Convo me and we'll talk. There will be an up charge of 15% for rush orders.
In special cases i've been known to do a layaway/time payment plan. Ask me first and if i'm able to accommodate you, I will work with you to set something up.
I only ask that you keep track of the payments yourself and let me know when you've made your last payment including shipping. I'll check after the last payment is made to double check our math. But please don't ask me to make or ship something before you are finished paying, I just won't do it.
Since your new garment(s) are custom made just for you, I can't and won't issue a refund if you have had a change of heart, made mistakes in measuring or for any other reason except in the case of loss or damage by the post office provided you have purchased insurance.
If you measure correctly, the garment should fit without a problem. Occasionally a vintage pattern will run slightly small or large. If after we determine that the measurements you have taken are correct and the garment is still a little off, I will gladly make alterations at no charge if you send it back.
Occasionally the post office does lose a package - I know..I know, the government loses something...I can't believe it :/
My shipping quote does not include insurance, so if you decide that you definitely want insurance I will get a quote from the post office and invoice you for the exact amount. If you don't have insurance and the package gets lost, I will be happy to work with you to make another garment but there isn't any way i can or will absorb the entire cost of the loss. Its entirely up to you to decide if you want insurance to cover the cost of the garment or not.
Please see my Shipping Policy for details on domestic and International shipping and cost.
