Top top quality vintage nephrite beads that are 12mm in diameter ( there are 25mm to the inch ) have a superb polish and were purchased by us in Hong Kong during the 1980s. They are matched with 10mm nephrite beads of the same quality and color.
?Jade has been valued for thousands of years and the name itself is almost magical.
For this reason, many sellers put the word 'jade' in descriptions of other materials that are being sold as jade. Be sure of what you are buying! I 100% guarantee that these gorgeous vintage jade beads are natural UN-DYED and UN-TREATED nephrite that we purchased in the 1980s.
Vintage green serpentine beads which are also 12mm in diameter provide a nice contrast to the deeper greens of the jade beads.
This hand knotted approximately 26" long necklace also features exquisite vintage raised gold cloisonne beads from the 1970s - the workmanship and attention to detail on these beads is nothing less than extraordinary - turquoise, cinnabar red, deep lapis blue, and two shades of green add a bit of color. These museum quality cloisonne are the epitome of regality and cloisonne from this time period is quite sought after and valuable because of its quality.
Vintage deep green Chinese cinnabar beads - the exact same color as the jade beads - frame the cloisonne.
?Genuine cinnabar beads are made from a lacquer which is derived from a tree sap found in China. The tree is tapped like a maple and the resulting gum is purified by heating and then made into lacquer by adding a solvent. This resulting lacquer is slowly added in many layers over a wood base. The lacquer can be colored in various hues including black, red, green, yellow and brown although most people are only aware of the red cinnabar.
Many people sell 'cinnabar' which is made from plastic so be sure of what you are purchasing. All the cinnabar I use in my designs are indeed vintage cinnabar beads that we personally selected and purchased in Hong Kong during the late 1970s - 1980s. These many layers of lacquer are then hand carved with intricate designs representing various symbols or images found in nature such as birds and flowers.
