"In 1989, the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
( CITES ) banned the international trade in African elephant ivory. Such trade in Asian elephant ivory has been banned by CITES since 1975."
This quotation is from a report released by the Humane Society of the United States in October of 2002.
Many people sell ivory today and many state that it is
" pre ban" ivory. I feel as a seller on Etsy , that it is my responsibility to let you know exactly what " pre ban ivory" means and also to assure you that any ivory beads I sell in my shop, were purchased before this ban. We have the documentation to prove this.
CITES banned the sale of ASIAN elephant ivory as early as 1975. Despite the fact that it was legal to trade in AFRICAN ivory until 1989 ( and our items were purchased in 1984 ) Customs officials seem to be currently prohibiting entry of ALL ivory products regardless of origin unless accompanied by an export license which validates acquisition prior to 1973.
We regret that we cannot ship outside the U.S. for this reason***

**The Chinese folk art of tying knots originated in the Tang ( 618 -907 ) and Song ( 960 -1279 ) Dynasties, and became popular later in the Ming( 1368-1644 ) and Qing (1644-1911 ) Dynasties. These knots are all distinctive not just for their complicated patterns, but because each is woven separately from just one piece of thread.
Knots were actually worshiped by the Chinese - an interesting example of their folklore. The actual words for "spirit" and "divine" in Chinese culture have a similar pronunciation and subtle link to the word "rope". Knots were cherished and thought to be blessed with profound spiritual and religious meaning.
Knots were also used for ornamental functions and there were many different knots named according to their different shapes, usages and origins.
However, as civilization advanced, the Chinese used knots for more than just fastening and wrapping. In Chinese history, the knot was the basis for written and symbolic communication, a method of record keeping and a symbolic representation of important historical events that occurred over time. Such events were symbolized by the tying of knots; the size of the knot itself significant of the event being archived.

Our beads vary so much in weight that it is impossible for us to apply a single add-on charge for multiple product orders. We will continue to refund to customers any amount that greatly exceeds our actual cost of shipping and handling.
ORDERS OUTSIDE USA: International First Class rates are now crazy: $16.50 for any package weighing from 1-5 ounces. Even an order for 2-3 small bead items may cost $16.50 or more, depending on the type of material (stone versus resin, for example). We apologize in advance if we have to adjust the postage cost of an order that has been placed. We will understand if an order is rescinded when the postage cost is too high relative to the product value.
All international orders have contents described as "loose beads" and are flagged as "commercial samples" or " gift" if you prefer to make your life easier when receiving your beads. If you'd like us to mark your order as " gift" instead please let us know!
All our beads are inspected one by one before being shipped. They are individually wrapped to protect them and then put in little plastic ziploc bags.

Love my beads! The coloring in the epidote was not as intense as illustrated, but it is certainly a good example of the mineral. The colors in the unakite beads are wonderful. The quality of the carving I would rate as good to excellent.
Nice beads!! Super fast thanks a lot!!!
I have dreamed of having a necklace such as the jade one. But the red one. That was a surprise. Both are beautiful. Thank you! Best, Jane
Lovely color;!interesting stones.
When I thought that I had ordered two of these and then checked out I had to order another set. The seller was very kind and combined my two orders and refunded my shipping.
