Vintage Carved Golden Amber Brown Serpentine Lohan Buddha Bead Earrings, Handmade Rose Copper Ear wires G
Vintage carved golden amber brown serpentine Buddha Lohan beads, Handmade Rose Copper French Ear Wires, Handmade Rose Copper Head Pins
In all Buddhist cultures, monks and lay practitioners use prayer beads or rosaries to help them count their prayers and incantations. These beads are usually round, but in some cases, they are carved in the form of human skulls, a reminder of how fragile life is. Many Chinese rosaries have 18 beads, one for each Lohan or Buddha and each Lohan has a unique characteristic or facial expression and represents a different aspect of human behavior or different passion. Sometimes these beads contain multiple Buddhas meant to represent the 18 Lohans - such is the case in these incredible hand carved beads.
If you look very closely, you can see that each bead contains many tiny little buddha figures! Each bead is approximately 5/8" in diameter.
The 18 Lohans (also known as Arhats) are saintly figures in Buddhism who have achieved deliverance from worldly cravings and suffering. Charged to protect the Buddhist faith, they have attained the Four Stages of Enlightenment and have reached the state of Nirvana .
Because these beads were carved from natural serpentine, I've tried to match the sizes of each bead as well as the color of the natural serpentine stone but each one is obviously different.
►We purchased these beads ourselves in Hong Kong during the late 1970s - they were found in a little shop on Cat Street - the antique district of Hong Kong so we know that they are at least 35 years old but most likely much older.
These earrings measure approximately 1 1/2" long and have been made on handmade oxidized eggplant rosy copper headpins and handmade oxidized eggplant rosy copper 1" long french ear wires. The patina on each ear wire is slightly different and will remain so as they continue to age.
These earrings will arrive in a little box all ready for gift giving.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: POSTAGE RATES HAVE RISEN DRAMATICALLY IN 2020
ORDERS INSIDE USA: A charge of $4.00 covers any first class shipment up to 15 ounces. Our beads vary so much in weight that it is impossible for us to apply a single add-on charge for multiple product orders. We will continue to refund to customers any amount that greatly exceeds our actual cost of shipping and handling.
ORDERS OUTSIDE USA: International First Class rates are now crazy: $16.50 for any package weighing from 1-5 ounces. Even an order for 2-3 small bead items may cost $16.50 or more, depending on the type of material (stone versus resin, for example). We apologize in advance if we have to adjust the postage cost of an order that has been placed. We will understand if an order is rescinded when the postage cost is too high relative to the product value.
All international orders have contents described as "loose beads" and are flagged as "commercial samples" or " gift" if you prefer to make your life easier when receiving your beads. If you'd like us to mark your order as " gift" instead please let us know!
All our beads are inspected one by one before being shipped. They are individually wrapped to protect them and then put in little plastic ziploc bags.
All vintage beaded jewelry is either shipped in a little gift box tied with a ribbon or in a vintage Chinese embroidered silk purse.

Love my beads! The coloring in the epidote was not as intense as illustrated, but it is certainly a good example of the mineral. The colors in the unakite beads are wonderful. The quality of the carving I would rate as good to excellent.
Nice beads!! Super fast thanks a lot!!!
I have dreamed of having a necklace such as the jade one. But the red one. That was a surprise. Both are beautiful. Thank you! Best, Jane
Lovely color;!interesting stones.
When I thought that I had ordered two of these and then checked out I had to order another set. The seller was very kind and combined my two orders and refunded my shipping.
