Lace Wire Woven Silver Pendant with Three Swarovski Crystal Beads #2

Details

TITLE:
Lace Wire Woven Silver Pendant with Three Swarovski Crystal Beads #2

DESCRIPTION:
The bottom of the pendant was created by initially using 5 frame work wires. A length of the pattern was developed. Then by a lucky mistake, the wire woven lace technique was discovered. (See below in Inspirations) By carefully bending this patterned weave into a flat circular shape it brought the ends of the wires up to the top of the design. The wire ends dictated that they be grouped differently to add more eye interest. Since there are eight wire ends they were divided into two for the bail, two for each side of the heart and two for the accent of the heart. Each of these grouping is wire woven or wire wrapped to create the final product. The bare ends of the heart wires are the curly "Qs" in the center. To enhance the open part of the bottom circle three 4mm round Swarovski Crystals were added to dangle bringing movement and sparkle to the pendant. This pendant is made to wear and enjoy no matter what occasion comes to pass.

The wire used in this wearable artwork is Artistic Silver Wire. It is tarnish resistant and will maintain its sheen for years to come if proper care is followed. (See Below)

DEFINITIONS:

PENDANT: as defined by - https://www.britannica.com/art/pendant-jewelry
Pendant, in jewelry, ornament suspended from a bracelet, earring, or, especially, a necklace. Pendants are derived from the primitive practice of wearing amulets or talismans around the neck. The practice dates from the Stone Age, when pendants consisted of such objects as teeth, stones, and shells.

ARTISTIC WIRE: As described by BEADUCATION:
This wire is made by first plating the copper wire with a precision layer of pure silver. Then the enamel color and tarnish resistant coating on top of this silver plating is applied. The silver plating beneath the color, adds an incredible high-shine and brilliance to the wire. Artistic Wire is a permanently colored copper wire available in a wide range of colors and gauges. It has an exclusive enamel coating which is engineered to resist tarnish, chipping and peeling.

TARNISH RESISTANT:
Metal that has been covered with special coating that protects the surface from any oxidation and discoloration of the surface.

SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL: By Google
What is Swarovski Crystal? Swarovski crystals are man-made gems manufactured in Austria. In 1892, Daniel Swarovski invented a machine for making precision-cut, beautiful, high quality lead glass crystals using quartz, sand, and minerals. The exact proportions of these raw materials has remained a company secret.

WEARABLE ART: by Wikipedia
Wearable art, also known as Artwear or "art to wear", refers to individually designed pieces of (usually) handmade clothing or jewellery created as fine or expressive art.

PENDANTS HISTORY: This article was most recently revised and updated by Virginia Gorlinski, Associate Editor on Britannica.com
The pharaohs of ancient Egypt wore pendants that were sometimes of huge dimensions, usually bearing commemorative or auspicious scenes in which the sovereign is being deified. Other pendants were in the shape of flies, winged scarabs, vultures, the eye of the god Horus, falcons, and sacred serpents. An exquisite example of an early gold pendant is that of two hornets clasped together, found in Mycenae and dating from the 17th century bce. Etruscan pendants were decorated with spindles and cylinders, figured, or in the shape of human heads. Greek and Hellenistic pendants usually formed the entire necklace. Pendants in the shape of a bulla are frequent in Roman necklaces, but there are also examples of cameos, intaglios, and gold coins mounted as pendants.
During the Middle Ages, characteristic jewels were the reliquary, or devotional, pendant and the cross, chased or enamelled with religious subjects and often set in an architectural frame. One of the most famous early pendant reliquaries, which belonged to Charlemagne, contained relics of the True Cross and the crown of thorns under a sapphire set with gold. In the 14th century it was customary for noblemen to wear necklaces with pendants bearing heraldic subjects; pendants worn by women generally depicted sentimental subjects.
Toward the beginning of the 16th century, pendants became decorative rather than religious objects. The Renaissance artists created numerous beautiful crosses and figured pendants modelled in high relief and depicting numerous subjects, such as mermaids, tritons, animals and ships, and mythological and religious scenes. Often, the irregular shapes of baroque pearls were exploited and adapted for the bodies of human beings or animals, whose faces and limbs were modelled in gold and enamelled.
In the Baroque period there was a return in pendants to engraved figures and intaglio and cameo cutting, framed in geometric decorative designs containing gems and, later, in ribbons and floral designs done mainly in diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and pearls. Such pendants continued to be popular until the end of the 18th century.
The Empire style attached no great importance to pendants, and most of the rare examples consist of cameo medallions. In the 19th century the Art Nouveau school created pendants with a lovely aesthetic line in which the most common motifs were women’s figures and profiles, butterflies, peacocks, insects, and flowers.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

My work starts as an idea then organic growth takes over until the mind screams STOP!

Pendants are a miniature piece of artwork that hangs from a necklace. Creating these miniature delights is challenging and rewarding at the same time. All elements of art are represented: Form, line, color, space and texture are all addressed in these little masterpieces.

As I was wire weaving I was straightening out the wire and accidentally pulled out one of the five wires used in the design. The weaving was quite stable so I decided to make my mistake work, which resulted in the making of this round and heart shaped pendant.

It is my philosophy to when possible to make these mistakes part of the design. I never want to waste materials. When teaching elementary school art, the children would get frustrated and start erasing of starting over on their project. So the beginning of the school year all erasers were removed from the room. They had to work at making what they considered a mistake, work within their project. Soon they did not rely on this crutch and the erasers would be available again. At that point they were very seldom used anymore.

Great shipping, great packaging. I just thought the necklace was going to be more browns and greens and darker. It is a pretty necklace but not what I was expecting from the picture.
