This is an exquisite handcrafted wooden tissue box. It has been made using Khatam art and then painted skillfully by Persian artisans. To manufacture this item and other Khatam handicrafts the following materials are used in a sophisticated art method called Khatamkari which is decorating surface of metal or wooden objects with small geometric pieces of different kinds of metals sea shell and woods. The woods used in Khatam art are: WALLNUT ,JUJUB , SOUR ORANGE TREE, MARPLE , BOX TREE, EBONY BETEL, LOGWOOD Some are used in their natural colours but some of these woods are dyed to give them the appropriate colours. Shell : Natural white sea shell or coloured shell. The metals used are: Brass which is used to make the bright golden color parts and Silver to make the bright white colour Seashells : are used in Khatam Handicrafts to give them more strength and beauty and to make the shiny white colour parts. Other materials used are : Glue Lac and polyester for the finishing touch.
