Eisenhower's Elephant - Original Arabic Calligraphy by Everitte Barbee
The Republican Elephant is illustrated using a quote from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. When asked about his thoughts on the New Deal, he responded that anyone who opposes those programs would be committing political suicide. Meanwhile in today's political climate New Deal policies are often seen as too far left even for the Democratic Party, let alone the Republican party.
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
-President Eisenhower, November 8th 1954
