VINTAGE JAPANESE LAMPWORK GLASS BEADS Faceted 13x12mm pkg 2 GL-390
Vintage Japanese lampwork glass beads - almost like a givre bead with both clear glass and a white colored opaque glass!
What I loved about these beads was the interesting shape which is rather difficult to describe - they are not really a pear (or teardrop) shape but more of a faceted cone or nugget/pebble bead perhaps. And because these are lampwork beads, no two are exactly but we will do our best to match the 2 that you purchase.
In 1979 we were in London during one of our very first European buying trips. I was always hunting for interesting vintage Japanese glass beads to add interest to the numerous beaded necklaces I was doing for the Smithsonian as well as for my own catalog of designs.
We discovered these beads, like so many others that I have in my shop, in Londons antique district on Portobello Road.
I have perhaps 20 or so left of these wonderful beads.
** If you love this look, please check out my item no GL-264 which is a very similar bead but in a much more distinctive teardrop shape and not as freeform perhaps as these are***
These vintage Japanese glass beads are handmade so the amount of white in the colored swirls varies from bead to bead.
Price is for 2 of these 13mm x12mm vintage Japanese lampwork cone shaped glass beads which I 100% guarantee to be vintage and purchased in London in 1979 (but are most likely older.)
I sold many of these vintage Japanese glass beads through the Smithsonian Institutions museum shop and mail order catalog during the 1980s and they were also featured in trunk shows at Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue during this same time period.
Youll never see vintage Japanese glass beads like this nowadays at your neighborhood gem show!
I was always looking for interesting beads that could be used in many of the designs I did for the various Smithsonian museum shops in the 1980s and I used these in a number of necklace designs that were sold in the Smithsonians gift shops.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: POSTAGE RATES HAVE RISEN DRAMATICALLY IN 2020
ORDERS INSIDE USA: A charge of $4.00 covers any first class shipment up to 15 ounces. Our beads vary so much in weight that it is impossible for us to apply a single add-on charge for multiple product orders. We will continue to refund to customers any amount that greatly exceeds our actual cost of shipping and handling.
ORDERS OUTSIDE USA: International First Class rates are now crazy: $16.50 for any package weighing from 1-5 ounces. Even an order for 2-3 small bead items may cost $16.50 or more, depending on the type of material (stone versus resin, for example). We apologize in advance if we have to adjust the postage cost of an order that has been placed. We will understand if an order is rescinded when the postage cost is too high relative to the product value.
All international orders have contents described as "loose beads" and are flagged as "commercial samples" or " gift" if you prefer to make your life easier when receiving your beads. If you'd like us to mark your order as " gift" instead please let us know!
All our beads are inspected one by one before being shipped. They are individually wrapped to protect them and then put in little plastic ziploc bags.
All vintage beaded jewelry is either shipped in a little gift box tied with a ribbon or in a vintage Chinese embroidered silk purse.
If you ever have a problem with a damaged bead or jewelry, don't hesitate to contact us. We are only human, and with so many orders going out on a daily basis, there is always room for error. We will replace your order (assuming we have more in stock), issue you a store credit, or give you a full refund if the item is returned in the same condition as it was shipped within 7 days of receiving your order if you are not fully satisfied. You must notify us as soon as you receive your order if there is a problem.
We want you to be 100% thrilled with your purchases!
We value each and every customer and are delighted that you have chosen to shop in our store! Customer relations are extremely important to us and we pride ourselves on the authenticity of what we sell, how we package it, and being accessible to all of you should a question or a problem ever arise.
Thank you - Debby and Joel Arem
Love my beads! The coloring in the epidote was not as intense as illustrated, but it is certainly a good example of the mineral. The colors in the unakite beads are wonderful. The quality of the carving I would rate as good to excellent.
Nice beads!! Super fast thanks a lot!!!
I have dreamed of having a necklace such as the jade one. But the red one. That was a surprise. Both are beautiful. Thank you! Best, Jane
Lovely color;!interesting stones.
When I thought that I had ordered two of these and then checked out I had to order another set. The seller was very kind and combined my two orders and refunded my shipping.
