Get to Know

Art has always been part of my life whether creating, teaching or sharing (even when I was 6 years old and had an art studio in the living room closet!). I have been creating all of my life and selling among the local show circuit for over 20 years. I started out selling jewelry in high school and have since built my business into its current life as Scaredy Cat Primitives (named so out of my love of felines). I have degrees in Graphic Design, Painting and have completed graduate work in Art Education. Today, I find true happiness creating fabric art dolls, mixed media and home decor all reflecting my love of the past.

I just love how something can tell a story just by it's wrinkles, dents, chips or stains. That is what truly inspires my art...to pay tribute to the past and living a much simpler way of life. I love recycling and repurposing and love scouring flea markets and garage sales looking for new additions to my art. In today's world of excess, it's important to me to take old, discarded, once-loved things of the past and rescue them from the landfill and breathe new life in them through my art.

You can find me most days working in my studio with my studio buddy Simon the Snowshoe Siamese. I also teach art classes part-time and work in member services at the local YMCA.

Scaredy Cat Primitive's work has been published in Prims and Your Cat Magazines and has won numerous awards from local juried shows.

My art comes from a smoke-free home and must pass the inspection of my four finicky felines: Ellie, Lil, Saki and Simon.
