Welcome to my gallery of original, handmade miniature teddy bears, beaded pouches, jewelry designs and patterns

I love anything that can be created with a needle and/or fiber. I also love a challenge. Combine needles, fiber and an impossible task, and that's where you'll find me. . .and my work.

Skills and Techniques

I work hard at miniature teddy bear design and construction in knit; crochet; jewelry; seed beading, specializing in freeform peyote jewelry. I draft patterns for all types of work I do except for freeform peyote. The very nature of this beading technique precludes the possibility of patterns. It is by definition a make-it-up-as-you-go beading skill that requires advanced level skills in both design, color composing and peyote stitching.

Get to Know

I am a teddy bear artist who not only handcrafts each of my miniature sensations, but designs them too. I also draft knitting patterns, design and make bead knitted pouches and an eclectic line of jewelry. I am a 66 year old wife, mother of two grown sons and grandmother of six positively scrumptious children, a two year-old set of twins who are as different from each other as they are charming, a three-year-old grandson who brings out the sun with a smile; a delicious granddaughter of four years whose precocious antics light up my life; a twelve year old grandson who, from the moment I first held him moments after his birth has captured my heart and an equally scrumptious sixteen year old granddaughter.
I am happily living with my darling husband, one cat and tank full of fish in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. I have moved a lot in my life living nearly half of it outside of the United States in Europe and the Middle East. In the process, I have had more than a few professional incarnations. I have been a midwife with a home-birth practice, teacher, programmer, secretary, bookkeeper, waitress and even a car sales person. I have always loved sewing and managed to use my skills in that area to put a little money in my pocket since I was seven and started making doll clothes for friends in the neighborhood.
A little over thirteen years ago a friend drug me to me first bear show to get my mind off a health crisis in the life of my younger son. I designed my first bear, Mickey with his lady bug, took him to a show and the rest, as they say, is history. Now I am hooked on bears and happily designing and making the furry critters as fast as my little fingers can stitch them up. The bead knitted pouches and jewelry were a late addition to my business but not late additions to my skill set. I have been an avid knitter and jewelry designer and maker since much of the rest of the world was knee high to a grasshopper.
