Silver, personalized jewelry, gemstones, lampwork, rocks, wireworking, Czech beads, nature, white sand beaches, shady coast redwoods, majestic mountains, and other artists' works in any medium are a constant inspiration to me, as well as gardening, antiques and the great outdoors!

Skills and Techniques

Soldering, silversmithing, stamping personalized items, and wire-wrapping are my favorites. I also love reading, traveling, needle felting, painting and gardening when I can get away from the studio! My current favorite thing: beachcombing for shells and sea glass to use in my jewelry. I have had an Etsy shop for over 10 years and it keeps me VERY busy most of the time.

Get to Know

After admiring some beaded lanyards made by a friend at work, I bought 2 of my pre-teens (I have four children!) some beads and basic tools for Christmas many years ago...I got hooked the first day, appropriated all their stuff, and destroyed our dining room for months. When it got really out of control and every desk cubby was overflowing with beads, my husband cleaned out a little outbuilding on our Texas Hill Country property and moved all my stuff out there. Since then, I progressed rapidly from bead-stringing to wirework to soldering and setting cabs in sterling. In early 2009, HillCountrySilver was born, although my youngest son wanted me to call it "PrettyJewelry" or "MamaP'sSilver" LOL! I opened an Etsy shop, and, once I got the hang of it, began selling my creations to help finance my increasing addiction for silver and gemstones. I returned to my beloved California in October 2012, and will continue to play with silver in the Sierra Nevada foothills. I have always loved rocks. My mom recalls that I asked her (when I was about 2), "Why is this rock?" She said that she wished she had known at the time that it was put on earth simply for me to make beautiful jewelry with. I started out in college as a geology major, but moved to the more practical field of health science and got my Baccalaureate in Nursing. I have been a full-time (mostly ICU) RN ever since, dabbling in crafty, artistic ventures (gardening, painting, needle felting, sewing...) my entire life. My mother always made ends meet by selling her beautiful quilts, so I was born into a family that really supported creativity and entrepreneurialism. Although she is gone now, she continues to be a constant source of inspiration, support, and guidance for me!
